Celebrate the proud heritage of the Intelligence Corps with this officially licensed Intelligence Corps King’s Crown Cap Badge Display Frame.

The Intelligence Corps traces its origins to August 1914, when an Intelligence Corps was first established to provide the British Army with a dedicated military intelligence capability during the First World War. Following the end of the conflict, the Corps was disbanded in 1929.

Recognising the growing importance of military intelligence before the Second World War, the present Intelligence Corps was formally constituted with the consent of King George VI on 15 July 1940, with its formation promulgated in Army Order 112 on 19 July 1940. During the Second World War, Intelligence Corps personnel served in every theatre of operations, undertaking field security, prisoner interrogation, photographic interpretation, intelligence analysis and counter-intelligence duties. Members also served with organisations including the Special Operations Executive (SOE) and supported the wider British wartime intelligence effort, including work associated with Bletchley Park.

Since 1940, the Intelligence Corps has supported British Army operations across the world, providing commanders with the intelligence needed to understand the operational environment, identify threats, assess risk and make informed decisions. Today, the Corps provides specialist military intelligence capabilities across operational intelligence, counter-intelligence, security, human intelligence (HUMINT), signals intelligence (SIGINT), imagery intelligence (IMINT), open-source intelligence (OSINT) and intelligence support to British Army operations worldwide.

This premium display faithfully reproduces the King’s Crown pattern of the Intelligence Corps cap badge associated with the reign of His Majesty King Charles III. Following the accession of the King on 8 September 2022, British military insignia began progressively transitioning from the Queen’s Crown pattern to the King’s Crown (Tudor Crown) pattern as new insignia were manufactured and issued.

Presented within a premium deep shadow box display frame featuring a hand made military Corps-coloured frame backing, this display is ready to hang straight from the box and provides a lasting tribute to one of the British Army’s most respected specialist Corps.

About the Badge

The Intelligence Corps cap badge is one of the British Army’s most distinctive military insignia. It has retained its distinctive design since the Corps was reconstituted in 1940, with subsequent changes reflecting the Royal Crown of the reigning Sovereign.

At the centre of the badge is the Union Rose, flanked by laurel branches, traditional emblems of honour, achievement and distinguished service. Above the rose sits the King’s Crown (Tudor Crown), identifying this as the pattern associated with the reign of His Majesty King Charles III. Beneath the central device, a scroll bears the title INTELLIGENCE CORPS, completing the distinctive badge design reproduced in this display.

The King’s Crown (Tudor Crown) distinguishes this version from the Queen’s Crown (St Edward’s Crown) used throughout the reign of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. As with many items of British military insignia, the transition has taken place progressively as new badges have been manufactured and issued, while preserving the long-established design of the Intelligence Corps cap badge.

The Corps motto,

Manui Dat Cognitio Vires

(“Knowledge Gives Strength to the Arm.”)

is closely associated with the Intelligence Corps and reflects its enduring purpose: providing the knowledge and intelligence that enable commanders to make informed operational decisions. Although the motto forms an important part of the Corps’ heritage and identity, it does not appear on the King’s Crown cap badge reproduced in this display.

How do I check the status of my order?

When your order has shipped, you will receive an email notification from me which will include a tracking number (if over 2kg) you can use to check its status. Please allow 48 hours for the tracking information to become available. 

If you haven’t received your order within 7 days of receiving your shipping confirmation email, please contact me at info@thecraftyblackdog.co.uk with your name and order number, and I will investigate it for you.

Returns Policy

If you’re looking to return or exchange your order for whatever reason, I am here to help! Returns are to be made within 30 days of purchase. You can return your product for store credit, a different product, or a refund to the original payment method.

I accept returns up to 30 days after delivery, (excluding clothing)  if the item is unused and in its original condition, I will refund the full order amount. The cost of the return is to be made by the customer.

If your order arrives damaged in any way, please email me as soon as possible at info@thecraftyblackdog.co.uk with your order number and a photo of the item’s condition. I address these on a case-by-case basis but will try my best to work towards a satisfactory solution.

To initiate a return, please complete the following steps:

  • The customer will pay for all returns less damaged items.

My Battle with the Black Dog...

TheCraftyBlackdog has been created from my own battle with the Black Dog - a term most commonly used to describe a state of depression.

This was something I had unknowingly been battling for over 20 years following my time in the military. It wasn’t until I became a mother and I could no longer do the things I used to do, to escape, that things started to unravel and I had to ask for help, that was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do, making that admission.

I first became interested in arts and crafts in 2019 whilst at a place called ‘Combat Stress’ in Surrey, this is where Military Veterans like myself can go and get help for Mental Health matters. Whilst there I discovered Art Therapy (I hated art at school!) and a love for making things in the OT room. I started by making Remembrance Day related crafts and this quickly moved onto Military Insignia.

The Black Dog has stolen the mass of confidence I used to have, so I am hoping this adventure will help me to connect with people again and inspire those of you out there also having your own battle, it is one that may never be won, but it certainly can be helped.
