Celebrate the proud heritage of the Corps of Royal Engineers with this officially licensed Royal Engineers King's Crown Cap Badge Display Frame.

The Corps of Royal Engineers traces its formal origins to 26 May 1716, when the Board of Ordnance established a permanent Corps of Engineers to provide the British Army with specialist military engineering expertise. Originally comprising commissioned officers, the Corps later worked alongside the Corps of Royal Military Artificers, subsequently renamed the Corps of Royal Sappers and Miners. In 1787, the Corps was granted the title “Royal”, and in 1856 the two organisations were united to form the modern Corps of Royal Engineers.

For more than three centuries, Royal Engineers have served on operations around the world, constructing bridges, roads and fortifications, conducting military surveys, clearing mines and unexploded ordnance, supporting amphibious operations and providing the engineering expertise that enables the British Army to live, move and fight. Today, the Corps remains the British Army’s combat-support engineering arm, delivering specialist engineering capabilities wherever they are required.

This premium display faithfully reproduces the King Charles III (CIIIR) pattern of the Royal Engineers cap badge. Following the accession of His Majesty King Charles III on 8 September 2022, British military insignia began transitioning from the Queen Elizabeth II pattern to the new King’s Crown pattern as new insignia were manufactured and issued.

Presented within a premium deep shadow box display frame with a hand made military Corps-coloured backing, this display is ready to hang straight from the box and provides a lasting tribute to one of the British Army’s oldest and most respected Corps.

About the Badge

The Royal Engineers cap badge is one of the British Army’s oldest and most recognisable military insignia. This display reproduces the King Charles III (CIIIR) pattern, distinguished by the Royal Cypher (CIIIR) of His Majesty King Charles III, enclosed within the Most Noble Order of the Garter bearing the ancient motto:

Honi soit qui mal y pense

(“Shame on him who thinks evil of it.”)

The Garter is surmounted by the King’s Crown (Tudor Crown) and surrounded by a laurel wreath, while the scroll beneath bears the title ROYAL ENGINEERS, completing the iconic cap badge design.

The Corps is associated with the distinction Ubique (“Everywhere”), granted by King William IV in 1832 in recognition of its worldwide service in place of individual battle honours. Unlike most regiments and corps of the British Army, the Royal Engineers do not carry individual battle honours, with Ubique recognising the Corps’ service across the world.

The Corps motto, Quo Fas et Gloria Ducunt (“Where Right and Glory Lead”), reflects the professionalism, courage and dedication that have characterised the Royal Engineers throughout more than three centuries of military engineering service.

Although Ubique and Quo Fas et Gloria Ducunt form an important part of the Corps’ heritage and heraldic identity, they do not appear on the standard Royal Engineers cap badge reproduced in this display.

How do I check the status of my order?

When your order has shipped, you will receive an email notification from me which will include a tracking number (if over 2kg) you can use to check its status. Please allow 48 hours for the tracking information to become available. 

If you haven’t received your order within 7 days of receiving your shipping confirmation email, please contact me at info@thecraftyblackdog.co.uk with your name and order number, and I will investigate it for you.

Returns Policy

If you’re looking to return or exchange your order for whatever reason, I am here to help! Returns are to be made within 30 days of purchase. You can return your product for store credit, a different product, or a refund to the original payment method.

I accept returns up to 30 days after delivery, (excluding clothing)  if the item is unused and in its original condition, I will refund the full order amount. The cost of the return is to be made by the customer.

If your order arrives damaged in any way, please email me as soon as possible at info@thecraftyblackdog.co.uk with your order number and a photo of the item’s condition. I address these on a case-by-case basis but will try my best to work towards a satisfactory solution.

To initiate a return, please complete the following steps:

  1. Reply to your order confirmation email to request which products you would like to return.
  2. Ensure the item is in the original packaging and please return to:

  • If you have asked for a refund, this will be initiated within 2 working days of the item being received.
  • The customer will pay for all returns less damaged items.
  • There are no restocking fees.
  • Please report any missing items 3 days after the expected delivery date. I will then raise the issue with the carrier and keep you updated with any response. In the instance of a loss, once confirmed lost by the carrier I will send a replacement free of charge. I can not do this until the carrier confirms the loss of the item(s).

My Battle with the Black Dog...

TheCraftyBlackdog has been created from my own battle with the Black Dog - a term most commonly used to describe a state of depression.

This was something I had unknowingly been battling for over 20 years following my time in the military. It wasn’t until I became a mother and I could no longer do the things I used to do, to escape, that things started to unravel and I had to ask for help, that was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do, making that admission.

I first became interested in arts and crafts in 2019 whilst at a place called ‘Combat Stress’ in Surrey, this is where Military Veterans like myself can go and get help for Mental Health matters. Whilst there I discovered Art Therapy (I hated art at school!) and a love for making things in the OT room. I started by making Remembrance Day related crafts and this quickly moved onto Military Insignia.

The Black Dog has stolen the mass of confidence I used to have, so I am hoping this adventure will help me to connect with people again and inspire those of you out there also having your own battle, it is one that may never be won, but it certainly can be helped.
