Celebrate the heritage of The King's Regiment, the North West infantry regiment formed on 1 September 1958 through the amalgamation of The King's Regiment (Liverpool) and The Manchester Regiment.

Initially titled The King's Regiment (Manchester and Liverpool), the regional subtitle was dropped in 1968. Its soldiers, known as Kingsmen, served in locations including Kenya, Kuwait, Berlin, Hong Kong, West Germany, Northern Ireland, the Falkland Islands, Cyprus, Iraq and Kosovo. On 1 July 2006, the regiment amalgamated with The King's Own Royal Border Regiment and The Queen's Lancashire Regiment to form The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment, where its traditions continue today.

This precision display piece faithfully reproduces the distinctive King's Regiment cap badge, combining the White Horse of Hanover of the Liverpool lineage with the fleur-de-lis associated with the Manchester lineage, above the KINGS scroll. The badge notably carries no Royal Crown and no motto on the badge itself.

Supplied with an integrated keyhole mount, it is ready to hang straight from the box.

About the Badge

The King's Regiment cap badge brought together two symbols with histories stretching back long before the regiment itself was formed.

At its centre is the White Horse of Hanover, inherited from The King's Regiment (Liverpool). Following the regiment's service against the First Jacobite Rebellion in 1715, King George I granted the White Horse of Hanover to the regiment in 1716. It remained a defining part of the Liverpool regiment's identity and was carried into the combined King's Regiment badge in 1958.

Behind the White Horse is the large fleur-de-lis, inherited from The Manchester Regiment and associated with its antecedent, the 63rd Regiment of Foot. The precise reason for its original adoption is not completely documented. Regimental tradition connects it with service against the French in the West Indies, particularly Guadeloupe. The fleur-de-lis was formally approved as The Manchester Regiment's cap badge in 1923.

Beneath the two symbols is the simple KINGS scroll. Unlike many British Army cap badges, the design contains no Royal Crown, so there is no separate King's Crown or Queen's Crown version of this badge pattern. The regimental motto, Nec Aspera Terrent, traditionally rendered within the King's regimental tradition as "Difficulties be Damned", does not appear on the cap badge.

You can skip the shipping fees with free local pickup if you are in Plymouth, Devon. Please select collect from shop at checkout.

How do I check the status of my order?

When your order has shipped, you will receive an email notification from me which will include a tracking number (if over 2kg) you can use to check its status. Please allow 48 hours for the tracking information to become available. 

If you haven’t received your order within 7 days of receiving your shipping confirmation email, please contact me at info@thecraftyblackdog.co.uk with your name and order number, and I will investigate it for you.

Returns Policy

If you’re looking to return or exchange your order for whatever reason, I am here to help! Returns are to be made within 30 days of purchase. You can return your product for store credit, a different product, or a refund to the original payment method.

I accept returns up to 30 days after delivery, (excluding clothing)  if the item is unused and in its original condition, I will refund the full order amount. The cost of the return is to be made by the customer.

If your order arrives damaged in any way, please email me as soon as possible at info@thecraftyblackdog.co.uk with your order number and a photo of the item’s condition. I address these on a case-by-case basis but will try my best to work towards a satisfactory solution.

To initiate a return, please complete the following steps:

  1. Reply to your order confirmation email to request which products you would like to return.
  2. Ensure the item is in the original packaging and please return to:

Additional Information:

  • If you have asked for a refund, this will be initiated within 2 working days of the item being received.
  • The customer will pay for all returns less damaged items.
  • There are no restocking fees.
  • Please report any missing items 3 days after the expected delivery date. I will then raise the issue with the carrier and keep you updated with any response. In the instance of a loss, once confirmed lost by the carrier I will send a replacement free of charge. I can not do this until the carrier confirms the loss of the item(s).

My Battle with the Black Dog...

TheCraftyBlackdog has been created from my own battle with the Black Dog - a term most commonly used to describe a state of depression.

This was something I had unknowingly been battling for over 20 years following my time in the military. It wasn’t until I became a mother and I could no longer do the things I used to do, to escape, that things started to unravel and I had to ask for help, that was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do, making that admission.

I first became interested in arts and crafts in 2019 whilst at a place called ‘Combat Stress’ in Surrey, this is where Military Veterans like myself can go and get help for Mental Health matters. Whilst there I discovered Art Therapy (I hated art at school!) and a love for making things in the OT room. I started by making Remembrance Day related crafts and this quickly moved onto Military Insignia.

The Black Dog has stolen the mass of confidence I used to have, so I am hoping this adventure will help me to connect with people again and inspire those of you out there also having your own battle, it is one that may never be won, but it certainly can be helped.
